Md Shakhawat Hossain is the Consul General of Bangladesh in Sydney, responsible for representing Bangladesh in New South Wales and Queensland. He is a career diplomat and a member of the Bangladesh Foreign Service since 2006.
During the span of his diplomatic career over 15 years, Mr Hossain served in a variety of capacities in both Dhaka and overseas. At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he held numerous positions at External Publicity, South Asia, International Organization and Protocol Wing.
Prior to assuming the current responsibility at the office of the Consul General of Bangladesh in Sydney, he served in Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director Foreign Minister’s Office, Deputy Chief of Protocol (Visit), and afterwards as Director in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Earlier, he served as the acting High Commissioner at the Bangladesh High Commission in Nairobi, Kenya for fifteen months between 2009 and 2012 and also as the acting High Commissioner at the Bangladesh High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa for two months. In 2012, he was assigned to open a new Bangladesh Mission in Port Louis, Mauritius.
Mr. Hossain studied Spanish at the official language institute in Madrid (Escuela Oficial de Idiomas Jesus Maestro) while serving as Counsellor at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Spain from 2012 to 2015. Subsequently, he served as the first-ever Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Tripura, India till 2018.
Mr. Hossain completed his Master of Pharmacy (M. Pharm) and Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) from Dhaka University.
Prior to joining the Bangladesh Foreign Service, he worked at Eskayef Pharmaceutical Ltd in Dhaka from 2002 to 2006.
Mr. Hossain is fluent in Bangla, English and Spanish language. He is married and blessed with a daughter.
