The beach lies 16-17 km away from Chattogram city in south-eastern part of Bangladesh. The beach is at the mouth of Karnafuli river and is surrounded by Zhau forest. One can enjoy both Bay of Bengal and Karnafuli river from this beach. Tourists enjoy the views of big ships anchored at the outer dock, fishermen catching fish in the sea, sunset, colorful crabs at the beach.
Cox’s Bazar
Cox’s Bazar sea beach is considered as the world’s longest unbroken natural sandy sea beach. The beach 120 kilometres (75 mi) in length with a gentle slope. It is located 152 kilometres (94 mi) south of the industrial port of Chittagong. Cox’s Bazar is one of the most-visited tourist destinations in Bangladesh. Cox’s Bazar is seamlessly connected with Dhaka by land and air with multiple flights operating everyday.
St Martin’s Island
St. Martin’s Island is a small island (area only 8 km2) in the north-eastern part of the Bay of Bengal, about 9 km south of the tip of the Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf peninsula. There is a small adjoining island that is separated at high tide, called Chhera island. It is about 8 km west of the northwest coast of Myanmar, at the mouth of the Naf River. It is the only coral island in Bangladesh. Currently, five shipping liners run daily trips to the island. It is possible to walk around the island in a day as it measures only 8 km2 (3 sq. mile), shrinking to about 5 km2 (2 sq. mi) during high tide.
Kuakata is a panoramic sea beach on the southernmost tip of Bangladesh. Located in the Patuakhali district, Kuakata has a wide sandy beach from where one can see both sunrise and sunset. It is about 320 Kilometers south of Dhaka, the capital, and about 70 Kilometers from the district headquarters. The Kuakata beach is 30 km long and 6 km wide. This sandy beach has gentle slopes into the Bay of Bengal. Kuakata is also a sanctuary for migratory winter birds.
Kuakata is the place of pilgrimage for both Hindu and Buddhist communities. Innumerable devotees arrive here at the festival of ‘Rush Purnima’ and ‘Maghi Purnima’. On these two occasions the pilgrims take holy bath at the bay and participate in traditional fairs. One may also visit the 100 years old Buddhist Temple where the statue of Buddha and two 200 years old wells are located. Fisherman village is another place where one can visit and watch the lifestyle of the fishermen.
