No Visa Required (NVR)

Foreign nationals of Bangladeshi descent (except SAARC nations) are eligible to receive NVR on their foreign passports to enter Bangladesh. Their spouses (under certain conditions) and children also qualify for this endorsement. The NVR endorsement permits the holder multiple entries into Bangladesh with an unlimited duration of stay within the validity of the passport.

Attention:

Due to a high demand for NVR, appointment slots fill up very quickly. We highly recommend the NVR applicants to plan their visit in advance and secure an appointment at the earliest.

If you are unable to secure an appointment, we encourage you to utilize our efficient and swift postal service option. Detailed instructions on how to avail of this service via post can be found in the ‘Required Documents’ section of this page.

To ensure a smooth and fast processing through our postal service, it’s crucial to follow all guidelines and submit the required documents correctly.

  • Applicants living only in NSW & Queensland are requested to apply for NO VISA REQUIRED to the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Sydney.
  • Applicants from all other states and territories are advised to submit their applications to the Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra.

Pre-booked appointment is mandatory to get NVR service.  

 

Note: The Consulate is experiencing a high volume of NVR applications at the moment. As a result, the appointment slots are rapidly filling up. We strongly advise you to plan your visit to the Consulate well ahead and book the appointment as early as possible. If you are unable to make an appointment, please utilise the postal service, which is also faster and efficient. Please refer to the ‘Requirements’ section for additional information on how to get this service by post.

To receive a faster postal service, you must adhere to all rules and submit all documents appropriately.

Each applicant must submit the following documents (based on the categories) for a successful NVR application. In the absence of any of the followings, the NVR application will not be accepted:

A. Bangladeshi Adult

1. Application form (duly completed and signed) [Download application form

2. Australian Passport (validity with at least 6 months or over) & a photocopy of the biodata page
3. Bangladeshi Passport (MRP or E-passport) / National ID card/17 digit online verifiable birth certificate. Both original and photocopy will be required during submission of documents. Photocopies are accepted without original only if it is attested by a JP.
4. In case of applicant holding a Bangladeshi handwritten Passport, he/she must submit any of the following documents along with the handwritten Bangladeshi passport:



    • a copy of the education certificate approved by the government of Bangladesh.
    • Bangladeshi Birth Certificate

Both original and photocopy will be required during submission of documents. Photocopies are accepted without original only if it is attested by a JP.

5. A color passport size (Australian) photograph attached with the filled in form (glued/stapled)
6. Printed Payment receipt (if payment is done via EFT)

B. Foreign-born spouse of a Bangladesh National

2. Australian Passport (validity with at least 6 months or over) & a photocopy of the biodata page
3. Bangladeshi Passport (MRP or E-passport) / National ID card/17 digit online verifiable birth certificate of Spouse. Both original and photocopy will be required during submission of documents. Photocopies are accepted without original only if it is attested by a JP.
4. If the spouse holds Bangladeshi handwritten Passport, applicant must submit any of the following documents of Spouse along with the handwritten Bangladeshi passport (1-5 page):



    • Education certificate approved by the government of Bangladesh.
    • Bangladeshi birth Certificate.

Both original and photocopy will be required during submission of documents. Photocopies are accepted without original only if it is attested by a JP.

5.  Original marriage certificate & a photocopy. If the marriage is registered in a country other than Bangladesh, the ‘certificate of marriage’ must be attested by the Embassies/Consulate of the respective country and DFAT. All Australian marriage certificate must be authenticated by DFAT.
6. A color passport size (Australian) photograph attached with the filled in form (glued/stapled)
7. Printed payment receipt (if payment is done via EFT)

C. Children of Bangladeshi parents:

1. Application form (duly completed and signed) [Download Application Form

2. Australian Passport (validity with at least 6 months or over) & a photocopy of the biodata page
3. Bangladeshi Passport (MRP or E-passport) / National ID card/17 digit online verifiable birth certificate of parent (father or mother). Both original and photocopy will be required during submission of documents. Photocopies are accepted without original only if it is attested by a JP.
4. If parent (Father or mother) holds Bangladeshi Passport (handwritten) children must submit any of the following documents of parent (father or mother) along with the passport of the parents:



    • Education certificate approved by the government of Bangladesh.
    • Bangladeshi birth Certificate.

Both original and photocopy will be required during submission of documents. Photocopies are accepted without original only if it is attested by a JP.

5.  Original and a photocopy of Australian Birth Certificate of the children. Photocopies are accepted without original only if it is attested by a JP. If certificate originated in other countries, it must be attested by respective country’s embassy/consulate/high commission and DFAT.
6. A color passport size (Australian) photograph attached with the filled in form (glued/stapled).
7. Printed payment receipt (if payment is done via EFT).

Exceptional Circumstance:

If you’ve changed your name, whether partially or entirely, you must provide proper documentation from Bangladesh that supports this change. No name changes made in Australia will be accepted under any circumstance. You’ll need an affidavit from Bangladesh detailing the change, which must also be endorsed by the relevant government agency. Please note that a name-changing certificate issued in Australia won’t be valid for NVR purposes.

*Special Notes (Please read carefully):

  • Additional documents may be required. The Consulate General of Bangladesh reserves the right to seek any additional document at any stage of the application process.
  • Basic Information (name, date of birth, place of birth) of an individual must be exactly the same in supporting documents (e.g. Bangladesh Passport and Australian/New Zealand Passport)
  • Incomplete application form or application with incorrect information or insufficient supporting papers may be rejected without citing any reason thereof. The consular fee is non-refundable even if the service is refused.
  • The Consulate General of Bangladesh reserves the right to withhold/cancel/reject any application without ascertaining any reason.

Please read carefully before you pay the NVR fee:

  1. NVR fees are received for processing applications. Hence, NVR fees are non-refundable even if an application is rejected, cancelled or withdrawn.
  2. Do not pay to the Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra if you would like to receive service from the Bangladesh Consulate General in Sydney as these two offices are two separate entities. Service can’t be provided by the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Sydney against a payment made to the High Commission of Bangladesh in Canberra.
  3. Fees are subject to change without prior notice.
  4. The EFT payment of the fee shall be made at least 03 working days prior to submitting the application form.
  5. A copy of the payment transaction receipt shall be attached to the application form.
  6. Cash/personal cheque/Direct Deposit is NOT accepted.
  7. Fees can be paid by debit/credit card at the Consulate. A transaction surcharge is applied for EFTPOS payment in addition to the consular fees.

The delivery of the passport may be obtained in ONE of the following ways:

  1. In person
  2. Authorized representative: Passport can be collected through an authorized representative. The applicant must provide a letter of authorization that includes the name of their nominated representative and a valid photo identification number, such as a driver’s license, passport etc.) to support their request.
  3. By Post. In order to ensure the safe and efficient return of your documents after processing application, a self-addressed prepaid registered return envelope is required. Please include a pre-paid registered return envelope along with your application when you send it to the Consulate. This will enable us to promptly return your documents once the processing is complete. Complete the ‘Mail-in-Service’ registration by clicking here and attach the printed copy (barcode page) with the application. Provide information for all applicants during “mail-in-service” registration.

If you wish to receive the service by post, complete the following process:

  1. Postal Service Registration: Complete the MAIL-IN SERVICE registration from the link below and include the printed copy with the application:  (http://services.cgbdsydney.gov.bd/).
  2. Required Documents: Include all required documents including payment receipt
  3. Envelope: Provide a pre-paid registered return envelope (signature on delivery). Write your name and detail address on the recipient part and send along with the other documents.

 

ORIGINAL documents (hard copy) must be accompanied by the photocopies of the same. The original documents are returned to the applicant. Alternatively, photocopies without original are accepted if certified by a Justice of Peace (JP).

Please follow the steps below for a successful application:

  1. Book an appointment online (please check requirements section) prior to visiting the Consulate for the service.
  2. Choose number of services carefully during the online appointment. For example, if there are 4 applicants, No. of services will be 4. 
  3. Please bring along all required documents [Original & photocopies].
  4. Arrive 10-15 minutes before the appointment time on the day. If appointment time is over, the appointment slot will be automatically deleted from the system and service cannot be processed with the same appointment.
  5. Keep your appointment tracking number handy before entering the premises.
  6. Collect a token from the Kiosk. Please ask for assistance if you have any confusion.
  7. Please take a seat in the waiting area and wait patiently until your token number is called by the Consular Assistants.
  8. Prepare and double check all documents before approaching the counter.
  9. Submit the documents to the consular counter.
  10. Respect the rules of the Consulate.
  11. Rest assured; leave the premises with peace of mind and collect the service during the delivery hours.

What is No Visa Required (NVR)?

“No Visa Required” (NVR) is an endorsement that allows its holder multiple entries into Bangladesh and an unlimited duration of stay, within the validity of the holder’s passport.

Can I apply for NVR online?

The online application is not available for Sydney Mission for the time being. Applicants interested to apply online may do so at Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra using the link https://www.visa.gov.bd.

How long can I stay in Bangladesh using NVR?

NVR allows the applicant to stay in Bangladesh for the entire period of the validity of his passport on which NVR has been endorsed. New NVR stamping have to be collected once passport is replaced by a new one.

Is there any application form for NVR application?/ Is visa and NVR form same?

Both Visa and NVR applicants use the same application form. Fill out the appropriate sections of the form, which can be downloaded from the Consulate’s website. When attending your appointment, bring the filled-out and signed form as well as any other required supporting documents.

Can I renew my NVR?

NVR is non-transferable and cannot be renewed. You must submit a new application every time you seek NVR.

What documents are required to obtain NVR?

The requirements for NVR may change periodically. For the most up-to-date information, regularly check the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Sydney’s webpage at https://cgbdsydney.gov.bd/consular-services/nvr/. Ensure you review the prerequisites for obtaining an NVR before applying.

How long is the processing time for an NVR application?

Generally, it is a same-day service if the necessary documentation criteria are met. Please check out this webpage https://cgbdsydney.gov.bd/about-us/operating-hours/ for further information. All services by post are delivered within three business days of receiving the documents If all required documentation criteria are met.

How much is the fees for NVR?

The NVR fee is AUD 70 for each applicant.

How can I make the payment?

The fee may be paid in ONE of the following ways:

  1. Credit Card/Debit card/EFTPOS payment at the Consulate’s service counter. [surcharge applicable];
  2. Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT);

Cash/personal cheque/Direct Deposit is NOT accepted. 

Is NVR fee refundable?

Consular Fees are non-refundable. Please check “Fees & Payment” section of NVR page for terms and conditions.

I accidentally paid the fees to the Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra. Is it possible to receive the service from the Sydney Consulate using that payment?

Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra and Bangladesh Consulate General in Sydney are two separate offices. Service can’t be provided by the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Sydney against a payment made to the High Commission of Bangladesh in Canberra.

I have paid the NVR fee to the Sydney Consulate but subsequently received the service from Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra? Am I eligible for a refund from the Consulate for the fee I’ve already paid?

No, consular fees are non-refundable under any circumstance. Please see “fees & payment” section of the Consulate’s webpage for terms and conditions.

Do I need to be present in person to submit my NVR application?

Personal appearance is not required to apply for NVR. You may utilize the postal service. Regardless of your relationship with the applicant, you must obtain an authorization letter if you wish to submit an application on behalf of adult(s) (over 18 years old).

Is it necessary for all my family members to be present physically when submitting and collecting their NVR applications and passports?

No, only one family members may come for submission or collection on behalf of all other applicants of the same family. But the Consulate General needs to be confirmed that the person carrying the passports is a family member of other applicants. Regardless of your relationship with the applicant, you must obtain an authorisation letter if you desire to submit an application on behalf of adult(s) (over 18 years old).

Is my foreign-born spouse eligible for NVR?

Yes, except for the citizens of the member countries of SAARC. However, to obtain NVR on the passport of foreign spouse/children, you must comply with the required documents.

If I don’t have all the documents listed as required for NVR on your website, am I still eligible to obtain an NVR?

No, if you lack the necessary documents for NVR, you are not eligible for NVR. In such cases, please apply for a visa. The Consulate will not grant an NVR endorsement without the required documentations mentioned on the website.

Can I visit Bangladesh with my Australian passport without NVR?

Holders of an Australian passport can visit Bangladesh without an NVR endorsement. Instead, they are eligible to obtain a ‘visa upon arrival’ form the Airport.

I had NVR stamps on my previous Australian passport. Can I get NVR based on the previous record of my NVR?

NVR is not transferable. Each time you apply for NVR, you must fulfill all the document requirements mentioned on our website. Failure to meet these criteria will result in the rejection of your application.

I am a Bangladeshi citizen and have been living in Australia for long time. I do not have updated Bangladeshi documents listed on your website. Am I still eligible to apply for an NVR?

Unfortunately, citizenship requires proof. It’s the responsibility of the citizen to keep the documents up to date. If you don’t meet the requirements listed on our website, the Consulate will not be able to endorse NVR on your passport. In such situations, you should apply for a visa. For more guidance, please consult with the Consulate.

I do not have original documents of supporting documents. Can I still get NVR?

When submitting your NVR application at the Consular counter, you must present the original hard copies of the supporting documents to the Consular officer. If you fail to do so, your application may be denied. However, if you provide photocopies that have been attested by a Justice of Peace (JP), the original copies are not necessary.

I’ve legally changed my name in Australia since receiving my last NVR and have a name change certificate authenticated by DFAT. Can I obtain an NVR under my new name?

No, individuals who have changed their name in Australia and do not possess any Bangladeshi identification reflecting the new name are not eligible for NVR. Name changes must be carried out in Bangladesh through the proper channels.

My spouse is an Australian passport holder. Is he/she eligible for NVR?

Foreign-born spouses of Bangladeshi nationals, under specific conditions, and their children with Australian passports are eligible for NVR endorsement. Additionally, spouses holding passports from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, the USA, and European countries can also qualify for NVR, provided they meet all other NVR requirements. I’m married to a foreign-born national with an Australian passport, and I have our marriage certificate as proof. Is it necessary to have our marriage attested for my spouse’s NVR application?

Marriages registered in Bangladesh need to be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If the marriage is registered in Australia, it must be authenticated by DFAT. For marriages registered outside of these two countries, the certificate should first be attested by the embassy of the respective country, followed by authentication from DFAT. All attestations should not be older than 6 months.

I have come to visit Australia as a tourist. I am planning to visit Bangladesh from here but my NVR expires. Can I apply for NVR at the Consulate?

No, temporary visitors cannot apply for NVR at the Consulate. Instead, you should obtain the NVR from the Bangladesh embassy in your country of residence before planning your trip.
